“Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….”

Baby Girl

Our sweet Emily, always known as Baby Girl, came to us as a foster in 2009 with special needs and we couldn’t bear to give her up. She ruled the roost: dogs, cats, foster cats and people included. Baby Girl was loving and friendly. She never met a stranger and all laps were created for her comfort and all hands designed to pet her. You will always be in our hearts.

Asher Ben Nasich

100 pounds of spirit in a 5 pound body but even his spirit could not overcome kidney disease. The Monster was the snuggliest cat I have ever known – loved to ride on shoulders and snuggle in the crook of Joe’s arm for hours. He pranced like a circus pony and loved his 30 sparkle balls that were always under the stove. Such a tiny boy and he left such a hole in our hearts and our lives. This will be very hard on B who has no pals now to snuggle with. And harder on us – the house is already too quiet and empty. Rest in peace baby – I hope you are with your brother Rahm the blue dragon.

Susie’s Story

Susie was rescued from the Orange County Shelter in 2001 as an 8-week old kitten. The goal was to keep her a couple of days in a temporary foster home and then move her to a regular foster home in a couple of days. She got sick 2 days later and was diagnosed with feline distemper. For the next three weeks, she spent her days near death in a small bathroom trying to recover. She did – and lived a glorious life with her “foster fail” family. She loved visitors, was a joy to be around, and lived every day like it might be her last. We were blessed to be her family for 18 years. She passed over the Rainbow Bridge on May 20, 2019. We miss her every, single day.

A special thanks to The Pet Collective for the story of Susie.
